Title: Slam
Author: Walter Dean Myers
Genre: sports/fiction
The book "Slam" is about a boy named Greg Harris or "slam" who lives in a ghetto in New York.
In the book you find Out that Greg is a teenage highschool kid who plays basketball for his school. The conflict of the story is that he's a great basketball player but he doesn't have the grades or the attitude to play. Greg had just moved into a new school in a suburb of new York where at the old school Greg didn't have any trouble with grades or discipline.
I think The theme of the story is life challenges. I think this because I can relate to Greg and his problem with grades. I plays basketball and during freshman year I couldnt play because of grades.
I think this book has a lot of realistic parts to it. I think one of the most realistic parts of the book is just the interaction within his family. I personal/ know familys who live exactly as Gregs family does in the book.
This book also has a lot of connection to my life. As I said befor I can relate to Gregs playing basketball and having trouble with grades but another way I can relate is to the setting of the book because I used to live in cleveland OH and the ghettos seem to have similarities to the book
